Iced Matcha Latte with Ceremonial Grade Japanese Matcha

Iced Matcha Latte with Ceremonial Grade Japanese Matcha

This refreshing iced matcha latte showcases the smooth, rich flavor of ceremonial grade matcha from Japan. It's a perfect balance of earthy green tea notes and creamy sweetness, served over ice for a cool, invigorating drink.

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp or 2g of TEAOLOGY® ceremonial grade matcha powder
  • 2 oz (30 ml) hot water (about 175°F or 80°C)
  • 8 oz (240 ml) cold milk of choice (dairy, oat, almond, etc.)
  • 1-2 tsp honey or maple syrup (optional, adjust to taste)
  • Ice cubes

Equipment

  • Small sifter or fine-mesh strainer
  • Bamboo matcha whisk (chasen) or electric frother
  • Wide cup or bowl for whisking
  • Tall glass for serving
  • Long spoon for stirring

Instructions

  1. Sift the matcha: Place your small sifter over the wide cup or bowl. Add 1 tsp of ceremonial grade matcha powder to the sifter and gently tap or press it through. This step helps prevent clumps in your latte.
  2. Add hot water: Pour 1 oz of hot water (about 175°F) over the sifted matcha.
  3. Whisk the matcha: Using your bamboo whisk or electric frother, whisk the matcha and water mixture vigorously in a zig-zag motion until it becomes smooth and frothy, with no visible clumps. If using a bamboo whisk, try to create an "M" or "W" motion.
  4. Sweeten (optional): If desired, add honey or maple syrup to the matcha mixture and whisk again to incorporate.
  5. Prepare your glass: Fill a tall glass with ice cubes.
  6. Add milk: Pour your cold milk of choice over the ice.
  7. Add matcha: Slowly pour the whisked matcha mixture over the milk. Watch as the vibrant green matcha creates beautiful swirls in the white milk.
  8. Stir and enjoy: Use a long spoon to gently stir the latte, incorporating the matcha throughout the milk. Your iced matcha latte is ready to be enjoyed!

Tips

  • For the best flavor, use high-quality, ceremonial grade matcha from Japan. The vibrant green color and smooth taste make a significant difference.
  • If you prefer a sweeter latte, you can use vanilla-flavored milk or add a splash of vanilla extract along with your sweetener.
  • For an extra indulgent treat, top your latte with a dollop of whipped cream or a sprinkle of matcha powder.
  • To make it ahead of time, prepare the matcha mixture and store it in the refrigerator. When ready to serve, give it a quick whisk and pour over ice and milk.

Enjoy your refreshing, antioxidant-rich iced matcha latte!
